One of the best documented native women of early colonial Louisiana, Anne des Cadeaux was an Adai woman who converted to Catholicism and married a Parisian-born explorer. We have selected Anne not for her only her own legacy as foremother to many notable early Louisianians but also to represent the countless indigenous women who shaped the culture of modern New Orleans.
